Travelling from Sanur Harbour to Nusa Penida now comes with a slightly different system of local tourist fees.
From 1 September 2026, Klungkung Regency introduced a new way of collecting tourism charges across Nusa Penida. The important thing to know is that the existing tourism area fee has not simply been increased. Instead, visitors may now also have to pay a separate entrance fee at individual tourist attractions.
For anyone taking a fast boat from Sanur Harbour and planning a day trip around Nusa Penida, this is worth knowing before departure.
What changed on 1 September 2026
Foreign visitors entering the Nusa Penida tourism area are charged an area fee of IDR 25,000 per adult and IDR 15,000 per child aged 4–13.
Those amounts are not new. Klungkung Regency has confirmed that the tariff itself has not increased.
The main change is the introduction of a second level of tourism charges. Individual tourist attractions, officially referred to as Daya Tarik Wisata or DTW, can now charge IDR 25,000 per adult and IDR 15,000 per child.
Unlike the general tourism area fee, which the latest Klungkung rules apply to foreign visitors, the individual attraction fees apply to both international and domestic visitors.
The new collection system officially came into effect on 1 September 2026 under Klungkung Regency Regulation No. 4 of 2026.
The old system was simpler
Until now, visitors were mainly familiar with a single Nusa Penida tourism levy.
Under the previous system, an adult paid IDR 25,000 and a child IDR 15,000 when entering the tourism area. The official Nusa Penida Retribution portal described this as a single-entry levy that allowed visitors to continue to several well-known locations such as Kelingking Beach, Broken Beach and Angel’s Billabong without paying the same government levy again at every stop.
That is the part that has now changed.
Klungkung is moving to what it calls the One Gate One Destination, or OGOD, system. The tourism area levy remains, but separate charges can also be collected at individual attractions.
What foreign visitors can expect to pay
For a foreign visitor, the new system consists of two possible charges.

The attraction charge is paid for each chargeable DTW visited.
This means the IDR 25,000 paid when entering Nusa Penida should no longer be understood as a single ticket that automatically covers every attraction on the island.
For example, a foreign adult who pays the IDR 25,000 tourism area levy and then visits three separately charged attractions could pay IDR 100,000 in government tourism and attraction fees during the trip.
The exact total depends on the places included in the itinerary.
Which attractions are affected
Klungkung Tourism has been preparing the OGOD system at tourism sites around Nusa Penida. Official coordination work has specifically mentioned locations including Kelingking Beach, Molenteng Tree House, Diamond Beach and Atuh Beach.
Local reporting has also linked the new collection system with other popular stops around the island.
However, we would not recommend calculating your entire trip around an unofficial online list. The system is new, implementation is being introduced on the ground and the authorities have acknowledged that some adjustments may still be needed during the early days of operation.
If you are travelling with a driver or organised tour, it is therefore worth checking whether the attraction fees are included in the price or will be paid separately during the day.
Payments are moving online
The new system is designed around digital payments rather than traditional cash collection.
According to the Klungkung Tourism Department, tickets for individual attractions can be purchased digitally, with barcode-based verification used at the attractions. Visitors should be able to buy tickets online before arriving or make the payment at the destination.
The authorities have also prepared satellite internet connections at tourism sites to help the payment system work in areas where mobile coverage may be unreliable.
Because the system has only just launched, keeping some flexibility in your itinerary is sensible, particularly during the first days and weeks of implementation.
This is not the Bali tourist levy
The Nusa Penida charges are local Klungkung Regency tourism fees.
They are separate from Bali’s provincial foreign tourist levy, commonly known through the Love Bali system.
In other words, paying the Bali tourist levy does not replace the Nusa Penida tourism area or attraction charges.
This distinction is particularly important for travellers who arrive in Bali, pay the provincial levy and then assume that no additional local tourism fees apply during their trip to Nusa Penida.
What this means if you are travelling from Sanur Harbour
Sanur Harbour is one of the main departure points for fast boats to Nusa Penida, with frequent departures throughout the day. Most crossings take around 30–50 minutes depending on the operator, destination port and sea conditions.
The new Nusa Penida fee system does not change the fast boat ticket itself.
You still book and check in for your boat at Sanur as usual. The additional charges relate to entering the Nusa Penida tourism area and visiting attractions once you are on the island.
If you are booking a day trip, the most useful question to ask your tour provider is now simple: Which Nusa Penida tourism and attraction fees are included in the price?
This can make a noticeable difference when comparing two tours that initially appear to cost the same.
Before leaving Sanur
If you are travelling from Sanur Harbour to Nusa Penida after 1 September 2026, we recommend checking three things before you go.
Make sure your fast boat is booked, check whether your tour includes local tourism and attraction fees, and keep access to a card or another digital payment method during the day.
The new fees are relatively small individually, but travellers visiting several attractions should expect the total cost of a Nusa Penida day trip to be higher than under the previous system.
