Travellers planning to take a fast boat from Sanur Harbour over the next few days should keep an eye on sea conditions, with higher waves forecast in the Badung Strait.
According to the latest forecast from Indonesia’s meteorological agency BMKG, waves in the Badung Strait are expected to remain around 2.1 to 2.4 metres for much of Friday 4 September. Conditions are forecast to become rougher on Saturday 5 September, when waves could reach around 2.5 to 2.7 metres.
The highest values in the current forecast are expected on Saturday morning and again during the evening.
Sanur Harbour itself should be calmer
Conditions inside Sanur Harbour are forecast to be considerably calmer than those farther out at sea.
For Friday morning, BMKG currently forecasts waves of around 0.9 metres at Sanur Harbour. This is an important distinction because boats leave the relatively sheltered harbour area before entering more exposed waters.
Passengers should therefore not judge the expected crossing only by how the sea looks from the harbour.
Fast boat services have not been suspended
At the time of publication, there is no confirmed general closure of Sanur Harbour and no official announcement suspending all fast boat departures.
Services to Nusa Penida, Nusa Lembongan and other islands may continue as scheduled, but individual departures can be delayed, changed or cancelled if operators or harbour authorities consider conditions unsafe.
Longer journeys towards the Gili Islands and Lombok also spend more time in open water, so passengers on these routes should be particularly prepared for the possibility of a rougher crossing.
